At Rooted Health, we believe that what you leave off your plate is just as important as what you put on it - which is why avoiding the Dirty Dozen can be a powerful step toward reducing your exposure to harmful pesticides and supporting long-term wellness.
These foods are nutritious either way, but if you’re going to prioritize organic, this list is a great place to start. We also understand that eating organic doesn’t have to be all or nothing - focusing on the Dirty Dozen is a smart, budget-friendly way to prioritize your health without stressing about making every single item organic.

Dirty Dozen:
Strawberries
spinach
Kale, Collard, & Mustard Greens
Grapes
Peaches
Pears
Nectarines
Apples
Bell and Hot Peppers
Cherries
Blueberries
Green Beans
When organic isn’t possible, a baking soda + water soak (1 tsp per 2 cups of water, 12-15 minutes) can help reduce surface pesticide residues!

While the Dirty Dozen highlights produce to prioritize buying organic, the Clean 15 includes fruits and vegetables that tend to have the lowest pesticide residues - making them safer to buy conventionally and easier on your budget!
Clean 15:
Avocados
Sweet Corn
Pineapple
Onions
Papaya
Sweet Peas (frozen)
Asparagus
Honeydew Melon
Kiwi
Cabbage
Watermelon
Mushrooms
Mangoes
Sweet Potatoes
Carrots
