“Soul Care” : Why It’s More Important Than Self Care

If you have read my blogs then you will know I prescribe to self care, but I have personally found that self care only provides a brief pause and recharge. It doesn’t quite go deep enough.
The truth is, while self care can give you a glimpse of who you are, you can still walk away feeling exhausted and unfulfilled. That was me.
But why??? Soul care goes deeper than self care. While self care focuses on rest, relaxation and meeting your needs, soul care is about focusing on the deeper inner life that God has given you.
Think of it as watering the roots so the branches can flourish.
In the time I have been blessed with to sit with my thoughts, I now know that I want more for me and for you. I now understand how soul care nurtures your heart, mind, and spirit. It’s truly about slowing down and realigning with God’s purpose for your life.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”- Proverbs 4:23
Why Soul Care Matters for Women:
Women, especially Christian women, often carry multiple roles as caregivers, leaders, professionals, friends, daughters, and mothers. When you neglect your soul under the weight of daily life, you end up feeling:
Spiritually disconnected
Emotionally and physically drained
Burned out and overwhelmed
Guilt-ridden because you aren’t supposed to feel this way
5 Practical Ways to Care for Your Soul
Start With Scripture:
Set aside time to read God’s word. Aim for at least 15 minutes a day minimum to center your heart. Think of how much time we do meaningless other tasks.
2. Create Space for Silence:
Turn off the noise - basically put your phone completely out of sight and sound.
3. Practice Rhythms of Rest:
Sabbath rest is God’s gift to us and honestly I don’t remember the last time if ever that I intentionally honored this gift. Choose one day each week to slow down, worship, and rejuvenate.
4. Connect in Community:
Soul care isn’t meant to happen in isolation. Build relationships with women who encourage, uplift, and pray with you. Truth be told, that is one of the reasons I created Rooted Health.
5. Integrate Prayer Into Your Day:
Talk with God throughout the day —while cleaning the house, working, taking the kids to soccer… Prayer transforms ordinary moments into extraordinary ones if you just pay attention.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Anchoring Your Soul in God’s Presence
Psalm 23:1-3 captures this beautifully:
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He refreshes my soul.”
God provides the quiet waters your soul desires. I can personally attest that true restoration does not come from doing more. It comes from dwelling in His presence from sun up to sun down.
At Rooted Health, we integrate faith into our concierge care model. From prayer spaces to faith-centered coaching, our goal is to help women thrive spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
When the roots are nourished, the whole tree flourishes.
